State-of-the-art dredging in 3D

Visualising the operation of cutter suction and trailing suction hopper dredgers

DEME

DEME is a leading global contractor in offshore energy, dredging and marine infrastructure, and environmental remediation. With 150 years of experience, nearly 6,000 professionals and a fleet of more than 100 specialized vessels and equipment, the Belgian-headquartered company tackles some of the world’s most complex marine and environmental challenges.

The technology behind DEME’s vessels is impressive, but complex. Explaining their operation requires more than attractive visuals. It requires a solid understanding of the technology and the processes.

DEME asked us to develop two 3D animations, each focusing on a different type of dredging vessel: a cutter suction dredger and a trailing suction hopper dredger. The goal was to clearly demonstrate how these vessels operate and explain the different stages and technologies involved.

Working closely with DEME’s experts, our team translated the complex technical information into a clear, structured and visually engaging story. Understanding what happens inside and around these vessels allowed us to determine what to show, what to simplify and where additional visual explanation was needed. From there, our 3D artists brought the story to life with detailed modelling, animation and visualization.

The result: two technically accurate yet accessible 3D animations that make complex vessel operations easier to understand and compelling to watch.

Projects like these sit right at the intersection of our expertise: understanding complex industrial technology and transforming it into communications that people immediately grasp.
