Digital experiences attract trade fair visitors

We helped Caterpillar® shine at Bauma.

Caterpillar

For the world’s biggest construction exhibition, Caterpillar® asked us to design digital experiences that would convey the added value of their technologies in a fun and interactive way.

Immersive technology

With 3,400 exhibitors and almost 600,000 visitors, there isn’t enough space at Bauma to put potential buyers behind the wheel of a Cat® machine. So instead, we created the Cat® Technology Experience, a Virtual Reality experience filmed in real machines using 360 cameras.

The VR app puts users inside the cab and gives a realistic impression of what it’s like to operate a Cat machine. Although there were 7 sets of VR goggles, people still had to line up to get a chance for a virtual ride, proving once again that VR has a big potential to engage an audience.

Up on the big wall

Another “substantial” deliverable for us was the content production for an interactive touch screen wall measuring 5 meters wide. Equipped with interactive menus, animations, videos and straightforward proof points, it allowed Caterpillar hosts to easily illustrate the added value of Cat® technologies to interested visitors.

Life after Bauma

Following Bauma the VR app was rolled out to several Caterpillar sites to aid operator training and sales, while the interactive wall was used for other Caterpillar exhibitions at industry events in Asia and the US. Recognizing its branding value, Caterpillar asked us to make the virtual reality Cat® Technology Experience available in the App Store and Google Play.
